Alert: Flight from Caracas to Santiago, Chile
4 MINUTE READ
May 5, 2020

We know it is late, but the U.S. Embassy in Bogota has become aware of a flight on Conviasa from Caracas-Maiquetía airport to Santiago, Chile, departing this morning, May 5.  The flight is scheduled for 10:00a.m., but flight times are subject to change without notice.  It remains unclear if Conviasa is only selling tickets to Chilean citizens or permanent residents of Chile, but it may be possible for U.S. citizens to purchase tickets on the flight.

From Santiago, LATAM Airlines is flying six times per week to the United States. Please note that only those with Chilean citizenship or permanent residency may enter Chile due to current coronavirus restrictions; all other passengers MUST transit the airport en route to the United States.  Non-Chilean citizens or residents will not be permitted to leave the airport in Santiago.  We strongly encourage you to purchase an onward ticket before departing Caracas, to avoid issues with Chilean airport authorities or immigration officials.

Please contact a travel agent in Venezuela, or Conviasa directly, to check availability and to purchase a seat on this flight.  The U.S. Embassy cannot make travel arrangements for you, nor do we have information on availabilty of seats.  If you are unable to contact Conviasa or a travel agent at this late hour, it may be possible – but not guaranteed – that you could purchase a ticket for this flight directly at the airport.  We cannot guarantee this will be possible in this situation. We strongly advise you to arrive at the airport four hours before departure if you intend to purchase a ticket at the airport.

We are also aware of a flight from Maracaibo arriving to Caracas-Maiquetía at approximately 7:00am, also on Conviasa, which would presumably arrive in time for this flight.

Please continue to monitor the Virtual Embassy website and social media accounts (@USEmbassyVE) for any updates.  Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive e-mail updates.
