Event:  Flight from Caracas to Toluca, Mexico – May 12

The U.S. Embassy in Bogotá has learned that a flight from Caracas-Maiquetía airport to Toluca, Mexico, on Conviasa is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12.  The cost of this flight is $710 U.S. dollars.  Before the ticket can be issued, all passengers must provide proof to the travel agency of an onward ticket to depart Mexico within 24 hours after arriving in Toluca.  The Toluca airport is approximately one hour from the Benito Juárez Mexico City International Airport.

This flight is available for purchase only through JAJ Tours Travel Agency.  To purchase a seat, please send a WhatsApp message to +58-424-469-3100.  JAJ Tours has advised us that they accept bank transfers and credit cards.  You must provide proof of a connecting flight to JAJ Tours, or arrange one through JAJ Tours, before they can issue a ticket on this flight.

U.S. Embassy Bogotá assumes no responsibility or liability for the professional ability or reputation of, or the quality of services provided by, JAJ Tours Travel Agency, which is a private company.  We understand that it is the only travel agency that can make reservations on this flight.

The U.S. Embassy cannot make travel arrangements for you, nor do we have information on availability of seats.  We also cannot assist in making travel arrangements within Venezuela.

We urge you to take advantage of this flight and to continue with onward travel arrangements to the United States.  U.S. citizens should return immediately to the United States.  The Travel Advisory for Venezuela has been “Level 4 – Do Not Travel” since February 2019.  The U.S. government has extremely limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Venezuela.

Due to travel restrictions within Venezuela, we suggest that anyone planning to travel on this flight give themselves ample time to reach the Maiquetía International Airport.  We are not able to arrange for or provide transportation to the airport.  Travel during daylight hours only to and from Maiquetía International Airport.

Flights from Toluca and Mexico City to the United States are increasingly limited and subject to last-minute changes.  Passengers who may require emergency assistance while in Mexico or assistance with arranging onward travel from Mexico to the United States should contact ACSMexicoCity@state.gov or call +52-55-8526-2561 as soon as possible.  The Mexican government has declared a health emergency through May 30 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has imposed  restrictions on non-essential economic activities.  Hotel availability near the airport for transit passengers is limited.  Mexican authorities routinely conduct health checks on arriving passengers and those with symptoms may be subject to quarantine.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned Conviasa in 2019.  U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents who take this Conviasa flight are not subject to any sanctions or legal penalties, under a humanitarian exception.
