Event: Commercial Flight Departing Caracas Thursday, April 9

The Venezuela Affairs Unit (VAU) understands that there is one commercial flight available departing Caracas to Toluca, Mexico on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 9:00 am. This is a commercial flight operated by Conviasa and all arrangements are the responsibility of the individual traveler.

We understand that Conviasa is requiring that flight connections from Toluca must be within 12 hours of arriving in Toluca. Passengers must show connecting flight at Conviasa counter in Caracas. U.S. citizens taking this flight are not at risk of U.S. government sanctions.

Travelers are responsible for making their own travel arrangements for this flight or any onward flights from Mexico to the United States. We understand that currently flights on major carriers are departing to the United States from airports in Mexico City (approximately one hour taxi ride from Toluca), Puerto Vallarta and Cancun.

Due to travel restrictions within Venezuela, we suggest that any persons planning to travel on this flight give themselves ample time to reach the Maiquetía International Airport. We are not able to arrange for or provide transportation to the airport. The Department of State Travel advisory for Venezuela recommends to only travel to and from Maiquetía International Airport near Caracas in daylight hours. For more information, click here.

If you purchase a ticket on this flight, and encounter difficulties traveling to the airport from your location, please contact us at ColombiaEvac@state.gov or (57) 1 275-2000. If you believe you will have difficulty reaching the airport due to travel restrictions, please provide us with your travel information (name, date of birth, passport number, and contact details).

Please note that the U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Venezuela. On March 11, 2019, the U.S. Department of State announced the withdrawal of diplomatic personnel from U.S. Embassy Caracas. All consular services, routine, and emergency, are suspended until further notice.

U.S. citizens should return immediately to the United States, unless you are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.
