Statement of Support for Venezuelan Democracy

The United States applauds the statement made by 27 valiant Venezuelan political parties on August 2 regarding Venezuela’s democracy. In the statement, they demanded political prisoners in Venezuela be released and showed that currently, there are no conditions for any free and fair elections in Venezuela under Maduro. We echo the call that these political parties made for the international community to come together in rejecting Maduro’s December election fraud and to support the struggle of Venezuelans for free and fair presidential and legislative elections.
Venezuela’s democracy will not be intimidated. We urge other countries that value and honor human rights and citizens’ right to participate in their governance to stand with Interim President Juan Guaidó and the vast majority of Venezuelans who have struggled for years to restore democracy and liberty to Venezuela. The time for a peaceful, democratic transition in Venezuela is now. The Democratic Transition Framework for Venezuela provides a fair and reasonable pathway to assist Venezuelans in their goal for democracy and prosperity.
