Today, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Principal Advisor to the Administrator Mark Feierstein met with members of the Venezuelan interim government: Honorable Carlos Vecchio, Ambassador of Venezuela to the United States; Interim President Special Envoy, Leopoldo Lopez; Venezuelan Commissioner to the United Nations Miguel Pizarro; and Advisor to the National Assembly, Veronica Barboza.

 

The group discussed the political and economic crisis in Venezuela, challenges facing Venezuelan migrants and refugees, and the communities hosting them across Latin America and the Caribbean, and USAID’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the region.  Principal Advisor Feierstein congratulated the delegation for forming the Plataforma Unitaria (Unitary Platform), a coalition representing a diversity of democratic perspectives in Venezuela, and reiterated USAID support for democratic actors and civil society working together to bring about free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections in Venezuela.

 

The United States remains committed to helping the people of Venezuela as they seek a return to democracy and prosperity in their country.
